PROFINET Security – PI's Strategy

In industrial communication, cybersecurity has become an essential requirement due to increasing connectivity, regulatory frameworks, and the necessity of ensuring the secure and reliable operation of automation systems.
 

PROFINET addresses these challenges with a comprehensive, scalable security strategy that enables secure communication across different application scenarios.

The PROFINET security concept is based on a structured approach with three levels: Secure Cell, Secure Access, and Secure Realtime. This model allows users to implement security mechanisms tailored to their specific requirements while maintaining system performance and interoperability.

Additionally, the webinar will cover the latest enhancements introduced in PROFINET specification version 2.5. There will be a particular focus on the new SXP protocol, including an explanation of why it was developed and the advantages it offers, such as secure communication and device access on Layer 2 and Layer 3 — even without IP-based connectivity.

The webinar will also address relevant regulatory developments, including the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) and the NIS-2 directive, and explain how they affect device manufacturers.
