Certified PROFINET Installer course (VTC)

The Certified PROFINET Installer course aims to bring the same benefits as the well-established Certified PROFIBUS installer training. This basic training has resulted in company’s making significant savings by ensuring that the network is properly installed and tested before commissioning starts. Perhaps the most important aspect is that the well laid out allowing rapid fault finding and quick device replacement when failures inevitably occur.

Automation and control system networks operate in a different environment and have different performance requirements to office and IT networks. For example, factory automation or plant control systems are quite often installed in environments where interference from electrical equipment is present. Mechanical vibration, physical impact and exposure to corroding chemicals are also common hazards. Cable, connectors and other network components must be robust and protected against such factors. The requirements on network performance and reliability are also much more challenging because the automation and control systems must operate for long periods without any failure, disruption of communications or delay. For this reason, it is essential that industrial network installations are designed correctly and installed by suitably trained and qualified people.

The training uses a practical approach to the layout of PROFINET networks. Topics such as connection technologies, cable and network testing are covered using a hands-on approach with up-to-date equipment. The course covers the following topics in detail:

  • Basics of Ethernet, IEEE802.3, the ISO/OSI model and the Ethernet frame.
  • Network Addressing: MAC Address, IP Address, Subnet Mask and sub-netting.
  • Network Infrastructure - switches, hubs, routers, gateways and firewalls
  • Switch features for industrial applications and PROFINET.
  • Layout of networks for robustness and maintainability
  • Making and testing cables.
  • Interference pickup and EMC-related issues.
