The Certified PROFIBUS Engineer (including Certified PROFIBUS Installer) Course is a comprehensive five-day, hands-on training program which is designed for students who want to become Certified PROFIBUS Engineers and have not completed the Certified PROFIBUS Installer previously. It is designed to equip individuals with the skills to troubleshoot technical difficulties that may accompany a PROFIBUS installation.
Course Information
This course provides a detailed overview of PROFIBUS network operation, covering both DP (RS-485) and PA installations. Participants gain hands-on experience using demonstration boards to understand network topology, wiring, and fault detection while learning essential digital system principles, transmission technology, and cabling installation.
Building on this foundation, the course progresses into advanced PROFIBUS concepts, focusing on protocol positioning, physical layers, and system debugging. Participants engage in practical exercises, including site audits and hands-on troubleshooting with DPV0 interactions and DPV1 extensions. Key topics include network components, functional earthing, and bonding, ensuring a well-rounded understanding of PROFIBUS DP and PA functionalities.
As the course advances, participants develop expertise in system timing, fault analysis, and network optimisation. They learn to use diagnostic tools for troubleshooting complex issues and gain insight into maintaining reliable installations. The course concludes with a revision session and trial examination, followed by an internationally recognised certification exam, equipping participants with the skills to implement and maintain reliable PROFIBUS networks.

Prerequisites
All students of the Certified PROFIBUS Engineer Course must first complete the Certified PROFIBUS Installer Course. For those who have not, the Certified PROFIBUS Installer Course is scheduled for the same week. The combined course runs for five days.
Who Should Attend This Course?
Application engineers, system integrators, technical support/maintenance staff, project leaders, installers, and suppliers.
Certification
On the final day of the course, attendees must demonstrate their proficiency by completing an open-book multiple-choice theory test and a practical assessment. Candidates who pass both tests will be registered with PROFIBUS and PROFINET International (PI) as Certified PROFIBUS Engineers. Those who do not pass will have the opportunity to schedule one additional attempt with the IDX Academy.
CPD Points
Students can earn five ECSA-accredited CPD points for this course.
